An apartment in Tel Aviv was bought by a young couple back when it required massive renovation. The old building, like many houses in the neighborhood, includes expansions and additions, which have been connected to the main space over the years. It required creative planning to create a complete and harmonious apartment. The plans included a kitchen, a living room and a dining area, all designed to entertain guests, since the owners enjoy cooking and hosting. A children’s room, a guest room that is also a family room and a master suite were added. The plans allow for future expansion to the second floor. The planning process and implementation of the renovation was dynamic and quick. The complex structure required changes and adjustments during construction. The renovation budget was limited and therefore creative. Out of the box approaches were taken in order to save money. The floor of the rooms is made of OSB boards, and the main bedroom closet is made of various colored molded panels found at the carpenters’. Furniture that the residents brought with them from their previous apartment was painted and other furniture was repurposed. All of these helped save renovation costs, but met the owners’ concerns for the environment and interest in green construction and recycling.
